Burn Injuries
There is no more painful injury than severe burns. There is no sadder sight than a child horribly disfigured from burns.
MD&L recovered $3,350,000 for a young woman who in 1999 suffered severe burn injuries when the car she was riding in ignited in flames following a rear end impact caused by a drunk driver. She lost her unborn son in this tragic accident, and her young daughter suffered debilitating brain injuries and burns. The car's manufacturer knew that the design of the car created a danger for just such a situation to occur, yet purposefully did not disclose this information nor warn the public that such a grave danger existed.
MD&L are advocates both in and out of the courtroom. We are members of the Burn Advocates Network for burn victims of the Iraq and Afganistan Wars and for young children.
By invitation only, membership in the Burn Advocate Network is only open to those who have demonstrated significant proficiency in handling this subspecialty of personal injury have recovered in excess of $10,000,000 in burn cases, and are otherwise certified as a trial lawyer.
Not only is the trial lawyer confronted with the delicate proofs to establish who was at fault for the fire or electrical disaster that caused the burn injuries, but also with the complex medical proofs to demonstrate the magnitude of tissue injury and treatment at its many different levels.
Presenting the medical testimony and hospital records in such cases is not enough to convey the magnitude of human suffering and heroics of human endurance. Typically we create a documentary film about the burn victim to fully communicate to the jury the extent of the injury. The talents of the story teller and movie director are required to record and compassionately show on video the many surgical processes that must be endured from the acute phase in the burn unit to the many follow-up grafting procedures, dressing changes and required rehabilitation and adaptation to the changes which may not only involve severe scarification but partial or complete limb loss. Dynamic evidence chronicling of the burn victims story is an absolute necessity for the full presentation of such cases. Such victims warrant a documentary presentation and are entitled to no less for the jury to fully see and understand the injury.
