Safe+Sound is an initiative led by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to raise awareness about the value of the many health and safety programs run across the nation. It’s a week in which organizations of any size can participate in several activities, or even host an awareness event to promote and recognize the value of health and safety programs. These programs tend to focus on workplace safety and take into consideration management leadership and worker participation. They use a systematic approach to finding and fixing hazards in the workplace.
Many organizations use this week to showcase their safety program initiatives. But it’s also a week in which organizations can have discussions about how to keep America’s workers safe, either in new or established ways.
The Safe+Sound week isn’t aimed at any specific industry, and the National Safety Council actively encourages any organization in any industry to participate. By doing so, you showcase your commitment to safety, and you will be able to participate in a whole host of different and exciting activities.

The Safe+Sound week webpage has all the resources you need to get started. You have plenty of options about what you can do, from hosting a public event to only doing some of the suggested activities in your workplace. And what’s best is that after the week is over, you’ll get a certificate and web badge to show off your commitment to workplace safety.

The 2019 Safe+Sound week ran from the 12th to the 18th of August 2019, and there were a total of 2449 participants from all parts of the country. Many of them used the week to showcase their efforts in developing and implementing a health and safety program, while others took advantage of the many resources available during the Safe+Sound week.

The best reason to participate in next year’s Safe+Sound week is that it’s a great space to either establish or improve upon your existing health and safety programs. By joining, you can get your program started, and get your workers and management excited about a current program. Or you can use the week as an opportunity to showcase your success.
No matter what your reasons for participating, the result is the same: a safer workplace for everybody.
