Strollers and RumbleSeats Recalled Due to Choking Hazard

On July 23, 2015, UPPAbaby 2015 CRUZ, 2015 VISTA strollers and RumbleSeat were recalled due to a safety hazard. The hazard includes the bumper bar, which poses a choking hazard when a child bites the bumper bar and removes a piece of the foam covering. About 71,000 of these units are part of the recall. As far as a description, the products are identifiable in various ways.

CRUZ stroller description: They have an aluminum alloy grey or black frame with a black fabric toddler seat with a colored fabric sunshade canopy and a black basket under the seat.

VISTA strollers: They have a grey or black aluminum frame, colored sunshade canopy and are made to hold one, two or up to three children. VISTA is printed in white lettering on the handlebars of the stroller and UPPAbaby is printed across the bottom diagonal rail of the stroller frame next to a black, fabric basket.

RumblsSeat: These are a separate seat attachment that can be attached to the stroller frame. They have manufacture dates stamped on the bottom of the seat from Septmeber 2014 through May 2015. They come in various colors and allow the child to ride rear facing, forward facing or reclined.

As far as incidents and injuries, UPPAbaby has received 22 reports of children biting off a piece of the bumper bar foam. No injuries have been reported, however.

The remedy to the situation: Consumers should immediately remove and stop using the bumper bar on these recalled strollers and RumbleSeats and contact the firm to receive a free bumper bar cover and warning label. These products were sold at BuyBuy Baby and other juvenile product retailers nationwide and online at Amazon.com from December 2014 through July 2015 for about $500 for the CRUZ stroller, $860 for the VISTA stroller and $170 for the RumbleSeat. They were imported by UPPAbaby of Hingham, Massachusetts.

Raw Chicken Formula Recalled Due to Possible Salmonella Health Risk

On July 24, 2015, Nature’s Variety issued a recall for their Instinct Raw Chicken Formula for dogs with a “Best By” date of 4/27/16 because these products may be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella can affect animals consuming the products and there is a risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products. This is especially prevalent if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

These are the symptoms in healthy people infected with Salmonella: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. Pets with salmonella could experience: lethargy, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. No illnesses have been reported to date thus far.

Consumers feeding the affected product should discontinue use and monitor their pet’s health, and contact their veterinarian if they have concerns. Consumers who have purchased one of the above products can obtain a full refund or exchange by either returning the product in its original packaging or bringing a proof of purchase back to their retailer.
