Recent Car Recalls

A number of car manufacturers issued recalls for certain makes and models this summer, including the following:

BMW

BMW recalled certain 2014 MINI Cooper Hardtop and i3 vehicles due to front passenger side air bag problems. The affected vehicles have an improperly assembled air bag inflator that can cause air bags to malfunction, increasing the risk of injury in a crash. The affected vehicles were manufactured between February 2, 2014, and May 30, 2014.

BMW will replace the front passenger side air bag free of charge starting this month. Owners can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or click here for more information.

Ford

Roush Performance Products, Inc. has recalled certain 2010-2012 models of the Ford E-150 Wagons and Cargo Vans; E-250 Cargo Vans and Extended Cargo Vans; E-350 Wagons, Extended Wagons, Cargo Vans, Extended Vans; and E-450 Cutaway. The affected models were modified by Roush to include a propane fuel system conversion kit with an aluminum fuel line fitting. The reaction between metals can cause the propane to leak from where the aluminum fitting meets the brass supply valve housing; the propane leak can increase the risk of a fire. The conversion kits were manufactured between January 2011 and August 2012.

Roush started to replace the aluminum fuel line fittings with new stainless steel fittings free of charge on August 29, 2014. Owners can contact Roush customer service at 1-800-597-6874 or click here for more information.

Godwin Manufacturing Company, Inc. has recalled additional Ford vehicles, including the 2010 Ford F-450; 2011 Ford F-550; 2012 Ford F-350; and 2013 F-350 Super Duty trucks. Godwin modified the trucks to add Muncie Power Products PTO Assemblies. In the affected vehicles, oil can leak from the PTO power switch onto a thermal blanket covering the exhaust, which increases the risk of fire when combined with heat from the exhaust.

Godwin will install a new pressure switch kit that moves the switch away from the exhaust system free of charge, starting this month. Owners can contact Godwin customer service at 1-800-892-0181 or click here for more information.

Honda

American Honda Motor Co. has recalled certain model year 2001-2010 and 2012 GL 1800 and 2001-2005 GL 1800A motorcycles due to an issue with the brakes. The rear brakes of the affected motorcycles can drag after the brakes are released, which can increase the risk of a crash. Also, the dragging of the rear brakes for an extended period of time can cause enough heat to result in a fire.

The recall is expected to begin this month, but a remedy has not yet been determined. An initial notification was sent to owners on how to inspect the vehicle for rear brake drag, and another notification will be sent when a remedy is available. Owners can contact Honda customer service at 1-866-784-1870 or click here for more information.

General Motors

General Motors LLC has recalled 2002-2004 Saturn Vue vehicles due to ignition problems. In the affected vehicles, manufactured between September 11, 2001, and April 6, 2004, it is possible to remove the key from the ignition when the ignition is not in the “Off” position. This can cause the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of crash or pedestrian injuries.

GM dealers will replace the ignition cylinder and keys free of charge if the key comes loose from the ignition. Owners can contact Saturn customer service at 1-800-553-6000 or click here for more information.
