Tires, Cheese, Power Tools Recalled

Michelin, Hitachi, and Big Lots are among several brands issuing recalls this week for defective products. Recent recalls include:

Michelin LTX M/S Tires

Michelin North America, Inc. has recalled size LT225/75R16 115/112R LRE of their LTX M/S tires. Approximately 1.2 million of these tires were manufactured between January 10, 2010, and June 23, 2012. They were used as original tires on certain Ford vehicles, as well as replacement tires on some commercial light trucks, full-sized heavy duty vans, small RVs, and some large pickup trucks.

If used, the tires are at a risk for tread separation, resulting in a loss of control and increased likelihood of a crash. Michelin dealers will replace the tires free of charge. Call Michelin Consumer Care at 1-800-231-5893 or click here for more information.

Smith’s Country Cheese Waxed Gouda Wheels

Smith’s Country Cheese has recalled nearly two dozen wheels of waxed Gouda because of a potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that causes listeriosis, a serious infection that can be fatal for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, and can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths for pregnant women.

The affected cheese wheels were sold in Massachusetts in various retail stores. The Gouda wheels are coated in red wax and weigh either 5 or 10 lbs, with labels reading Smith’s Farmstead Gouda or Mountain Gouda. They were wrapped in saran wrap and may have been cut and packaged for consumer-size units.

The affected Gouda wheels can be returned to Smith’s Country Cheese, Inc. for a full refund. Call Smith’s Country Cheese at 1-800-700-9974 or click here for more information.

Hitachi Koki Pneumatic Nailers

Hitachi Koki U.S.A. Ltd. has recalled two models of the Hitachi Koki 3 ¼ inch strip pneumatic nailers with depth adjustment. The affected model numbers, which can be found on the side of the nailers and outside of the box, are NR83A2(Y) and NR83A3.

When used, the pneumatic nailers can jam and override the safety switch that ensures only one nail is fired at a time. Owners of the Hitachi Koki Pneumatic Nailer should stop using the product immediately due to injury risk.

The recall affects about 25,000 units in the U.S. and 300 in Canada, all sold between May 2012 and May 2014 for approximately $300. They were sold at independent home improvement and building supply stores, as well as online at Amazon.com, HomeDepot.com, Lowes.com, Walmart.com, and Grainger.com
