Celebrating International Women’s Day with KACE: Honoring the Memory of Comfort Women

On March 8, 2025, in recognition of International Women’s Day, I had the honor of participating in a rally organized by the Korean American Civic Empowerment (KACE) to protest and memorialize the war crime of comfort women—victims of forced sex slavery by the Japanese military during World War II. This event was not only a tribute to the resilience of these women but also a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight for justice and historical acknowledgment.

As a member of KACE’s legal task force, I am proud to serve alongside a dedicated group of volunteer attorneys committed to advocating for the Korean American community. Our work extends beyond legal assistance to championing human rights and ensuring that history is preserved and respected.
The rally built upon previous efforts by KACE, including the successful advocacy of Attorney Jeon, who secured two permanent memorials through the Bergen County legislature. These plaques—one at the Bergen Justice Center and another in front of the Palisades Park Public Library—stand as lasting tributes to the victims and serve as educational markers for future generations.

International Women’s Day is a moment to recognize the strength and contributions of women worldwide. It is also a time to reflect on the injustices that persist and reaffirm our commitment to advocacy and remembrance. I am grateful for the opportunity to stand in solidarity with the community and contribute to this meaningful cause.
